Project Communities

To change the future, you must equip educators and librarians with the tools they need to create an inclusive learning environment. Teachers, librarians, and other educational professionals in rural learning environments work with the most diverse youth ever seen in a rural community. Project Communities gives those educators and librarians the skills and tools they need to provide an empowering and inclusive learning environment.

In 2020, Project Q&A hosted two workshops to help educators better serve their LGBTQ+ students. “Project Q&A Goes Back to School” gave attendees critical knowledge to make their classrooms more inclusive and understand the sexuality and gender spectrum.

Project Q&A has received a grant from the Independence Area Community Chest to host a conference for educators in southeast Kansas in 2021. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we were unable to host that conference. Instead, we are using the grant funds to work with 4 educators and 4 librarians to develop a playbook to help educators and librarians make their spaces more inclusive for the LGBTQIA community. The playbook will be accompanied by a workshop provided by the authors. If you are interested in being an author for this initiative, please fill out the application below. In conjunction with the playbook and training, we are developing kits that can be issued to schools, including visibility materials and more.

We are seeking a Project Communities Coordinator to manage this project. If you are interested, learn more and apply here!
